Basic Join Frame Technique.

Many times we are asked for advice on joining some of the unique mouldings that we have created. This section of the website is designed to help answer some of those questions. As we move forward over the coming months we will focus on specific mouldings that may pose interesting challenges to our customers. If your specific issue is not answered here feel free to contact your local Roma Representative.
Step 1
Ensure that the edges of the cut miters are colored to match the outside of the moulding. The use of a waterbase marker is suggested.
Step 2
Determine the appropriate v-nail size and v-nail type (ie: hard and softwood v-nails).
Step 3
Place one rail of the moulding to be joined in the v-nail machine.
Step 4
Set the stops on the v-nail machine to achieve proper v-nail placement. Please Note: improper placement of the v-nail too far back will cause the back of the moulding to split open. As well, more than one placement maybe needed depending on the width of the moulding.
Step 5
Adjust the clamp to apply proper pressure to the moulding. This will ensure that the v-nail penetrates the underneath of the frame properly. Applying too much pressure may result in the top of the moulding being damaged.
Step 6
Apply wood glue to the inside of the rail and place rail into v-nailer.
Step 7
Place second rail in to v-nailer and manually align pieces and insert v-nails.
Step 8
Continue with step 6 and step 7 until the frame is completely joined.
Step 9
With a slightly damp cloth wipe off any excess glue. Do not let the glue harden on the surface of the frame.
