The July 11th Protests
On July 11, 2021 thousands of Cubans protested, calling for an end to the 62-year-old dictatorship.
Cuban citizens took to the streets across the country to protest deteriorating living conditions and the lack of basic goods and services, including medical attention amid increasing numbers of coronavirus infections.
The government response has been draconian; halting internet service, deploying brutal security forces, attacking and arresting protestors by the hundreds, even going door-to-door to make detentions. Families went days without knowing where their loved ones were being held; many convicted in quick trials with no defense attorney.
Shortages of food, medicine, and other essentials, already dire under the longstanding US embargo, have worsened exponentially in the weeks following the protests.
WHAT WE’RE DOING
Making a Difference
*Our contacts in Cuba have asked to remain anonymous out of concern for their safety.
Media blackouts, embargos, and the repressive regime in Cuba make getting both information out of and aid into Cuba difficult right now.
We are working with people who are on the ground in Cuba to make sure the funds and supplies we are gathering actually make it to the people in need.
We are collecting funds and urgently needed basic medical supplies and medicines requested by our Cuban contacts. 100% of the funds we gather will go to purchasing supplies for the Cuban people and any remaining amount will be donated directly to our contact's* organization.
